Ghatasthapana is the sacred ritual beginning the nine-day Navratri festival, where a pot (kalash) is filled with water and adorned with auspicious items like a coconut and mango leaves. Barley seeds are sown in a layer of sacred soil, and the kalash is placed on top to invoke the presence of Goddess Durga. The sprouting barley seeds, or jamara, symbolize growth and prosperity, and the ritual seeks blessings for wealth, luck, and good fortune.
